How SutramX is priced for teams

Every SutramX plan includes unlimited team members, so the price depends on your monitors and features, never on how many people are on call. Escalation policies are included on Growth and Pro. On-call schedules (rotations) are included on Pro.

How the comparison works

For each vendor the calculator finds the cheapest published option that covers your monitors, responders and status pages, then adds whatever extras that option needs. For SutramX that is the cheapest plan whose limits and on-call features cover your inputs, with no extras because seats are free. For Better Stack it is one responder license per person plus monitor blocks and extra status pages. For UptimeRobot it is the cheapest plan whose monitor and status page limits fit, plus extra login seats. Annual prices are shown as their monthly equivalent.

A worked example

With the starting inputs (50 monitors, 5 responders, 2 status pages, on-call schedules and escalation, annual billing), the calculator gives SutramX: $49.17 a month (Pro); Better Stack: $178 a month (Responder licenses); UptimeRobot: $65 a month (Team). The UptimeRobot figure does not include on-call schedules or escalation, which its plans do not list.

Double the rota to 10 responders and nothing else changes: SutramX: $49.17 a month (Pro); Better Stack: $323 a month (Responder licenses); UptimeRobot: $140 a month (Team). Per-person pricing grows with the team, so the gap widens as more people share on-call. That is the main thing this calculator is built to show. Prices change, so treat these as a snapshot and check each vendor's pricing page before you decide.

What you get for on-call on SutramX

An escalation policy is a list of up to 20 steps, each with a delay of 0 to 1,440 minutes, that keep notifying until someone acknowledges the incident or it resolves. A step can email a fixed address or whoever is on call, post to a chat app, call a webhook, send an SMS or voice call to a fixed number, or page PagerDuty or Opsgenie. SMS and voice steps use the monthly alert credits included in your plan.

An on-call schedule rotates 1 to 100 people in list order, with a rotation interval of 1 to 720 hours (168 for weekly shifts), optional shift windows and holiday overrides. If an email step finds nobody on call and you have PagerDuty connected, SutramX pages PagerDuty instead. The full rules are in escalation and on-call, and how to run an on-call rotation covers rota design. See alerting features for every channel, and alert credits for how phone alerts are counted.

Assumptions

  • Prices are list prices in US dollars per month. SutramX prices include taxes; other vendors may add tax at checkout. With annual billing they are shown as the monthly equivalent.
  • Every responder is a person who needs to log in and be paged. SutramX includes unlimited team members on every plan, so responders do not change its price.
  • Better Stack: one responder license per responder ($29/month billed yearly, $34 monthly). We assume 10 uptime monitors and 1 status page are included, extra monitors come in blocks of 50 ($21 yearly, $25 monthly) and extra status pages cost $12 yearly or $15 monthly each. Heartbeats, telemetry and call or SMS charges are not included.
  • Better Stack Free (10 monitors, 1 status page) is counted only when no escalation is needed and at most one person responds.
  • UptimeRobot: we assume Free and Solo cover one login (the account owner), Team includes 3 logins and Scale 5, and extra login seats cost $15/month billed yearly or $19 monthly. Scale is counted at its entry size of 200 monitors; larger Scale sizes are priced on request.
  • UptimeRobot plans do not list on-call schedules or escalation policies, so when you need them the UptimeRobot figure is shown with that caveat rather than left out.
  • SutramX: the cheapest listed plan whose monitor and status-page limits and on-call features cover your inputs. Monitor counts above the largest plan need a custom plan.

What a price comparison leaves out

Price is one input. Better Stack also offers logs and telemetry, which SutramX does not. UptimeRobot has a long track record and a generous free plan, and its terms allow commercial use on every plan. Compare the features you need on our Better Stack and UptimeRobot comparison pages.

On-call cost is also measured in sleep. A rota where every alert pages someone burns people out faster than any license fee. Route low-priority monitors to chat, keep paging for outages that need a human now, and track how quickly incidents are noticed and fixed with MTTR and MTTD.

Frequently asked questions

Does SutramX charge per responder or per seat?

No. Every plan includes unlimited team members, so adding people to the rota never changes the price. The plan is chosen by monitors, status pages and the features you need.

Who counts as a responder?

Anyone who needs to log in and be paged when something breaks. People who only read a status page, or only get a weekly report, are not responders.

Can I keep PagerDuty for paging and use SutramX for monitoring?

Yes. The PagerDuty integration is on Growth and Pro. Incidents trigger, acknowledge and resolve in PagerDuty automatically, and PagerDuty's own pricing then applies to the people it pages.

Why is the UptimeRobot figure shown with a caveat?

UptimeRobot plans do not list on-call schedules or escalation policies. When you ask for them, its price is still shown so you can compare, with a note that it does not cover that need.
