How to read the result
- “Test message sent”The message was accepted for delivery. It should arrive within a minute, from the SutramX business number.
- What arrivesThe panel next to the form previews the sample alert. The message itself follows SutramX's approved WhatsApp template: the alert title, here “SutramX sample monitor is DOWN”, and a link. Nothing you type is included in the message.
- Number errorsEnter the number with its country code and without the leading 0 of the local format. A country code that is not recognised, or a number that does not look like a mobile number for its country, is rejected before anything is sent.
- “A test message was already sent to this number today”Each number gets one test per day, and each network a few. Try again tomorrow.
- “The test message could not be sent”The message was not accepted for delivery, often because of the number. A failed send does not use up the number's daily test.
- “Not available right now”The test opens only while SutramX WhatsApp alerts are switched on, and there is also a daily cap on test messages across all visitors.
Common causes and what to do next
If the message says it was sent but nothing appears, check that WhatsApp is installed and active on that exact number, that you entered it in international format (for example +91 followed by the ten-digit number, or +44 without the 0), and that the number can receive messages from international business senders. The same checks apply to the numbers you later connect for real alerts, so this test is a quick way to rule them out before an outage does.
Once it arrives, decide who should get alerts like it. A WhatsApp alert is best kept for production monitors and the person on call; route everything else to email or a chat channel.
Why WhatsApp for uptime alerts
Email gets buried and chat apps get muted after hours. For many teams, especially in India, WhatsApp is the app that is always open, so a downtime alert there gets seen. Read more on WhatsApp uptime alerts.
What we do with your number
We send this one message and nothing else. The number is used only for the send and to enforce the limit of one test per number per day; it is not added to a mailing list or shared.
Frequently asked questions
Does the WhatsApp alert test cost anything or sign me up for messages?
No. The test is free and needs no account. Your number is used only to send this one message and to enforce the limit of one test per number per day; it is not added to a list or shared.
Is the test message the same as a real downtime alert?
It uses the same approved WhatsApp template as real alerts: an alert title and a link. In a real alert the title names your monitor (for example "Checkout API is DOWN") and the link opens the incident in your SutramX dashboard. A recovery message follows when the monitor is back up.
Why did my test message not arrive?
Most often the number was entered without its country code or with the local leading 0, WhatsApp is not active on that number, or the number does not accept messages from international business senders. Check those, then try again the next day, since each number gets one test per day.
How do I get WhatsApp alerts for my own websites?
Add your WhatsApp number as an alert channel in SutramX. WhatsApp alerts are included on Starter, Growth and Pro, each with a monthly allowance of WhatsApp credits.
