Connect with Discord
- On the Discord card, click "Connect with Discord".
- Discord opens. Pick the server and the channel for alerts, then click Authorize. You need the Manage Webhooks permission on that server.
- You are back in SutramX with the channel connected and a test message posted.
Or paste a channel webhook
- In Discord, open Server Settings (or the channel's Edit Channel) → Integrations → Webhooks. You need the Manage Webhooks permission.
- Click New Webhook, give it a name such as "SutramX", and pick the channel.
- Click Copy Webhook URL. It starts with https://discord.com/api/webhooks/.
Then click Connect Discord on the Discord card, paste the URL into "Link from Discord" and click Connect. You can also paste it into the "Already have a webhook link?" box at the top of the Integrations tab, and SutramX recognises it as Discord.
To alert more than one channel, connect Discord once per channel and give each connection its own routing.
What the alert looks like
Alerts are posted with the SutramX avatar as plain text: a [DOWN] or [UP] tag with the monitor name, the URL, the region that confirmed the failure, the failure detail or the total downtime, and a link to the incident.
[DOWN] Checkout API is DOWN
URL: https://api.example.com/health
Region: FRA1 (Frankfurt, Germany)
Detail: <failure reason>
Details: <link to the incident in SutramX>
[UP] Checkout API has RECOVERED
URL: https://api.example.com/health
Downtime: 4m 12s
Details: <link to the incident in SutramX>Monitor names, URLs and failure reasons are escaped, so @everyone, @here and role mentions inside a monitor name never ping anyone, and they cannot create links or formatting. Very long messages are shortened to fit Discord's limit.
Besides down and recovery alerts, the channel receives notices: SSL certificate and domain expiry reminders (for monitors with expiry notifications on), maintenance started and completed, website health changes and third-party status updates. Each starts with a tag such as [SSL], [DOMAIN], [MAINTENANCE], [SITE HEALTH] or [THIRD-PARTY].
Test the connection
SutramX posts a test message right after you connect, for a monitor called "SutramX test alert", marked as a test. To test again, open the connection's menu on Integrations & API and choose Send test. If the test fails, the card shows the error Discord returned and offers Retry test.
Troubleshooting
- "This doesn't look like a Discord webhook URL": the link is incomplete or belongs to another service. Copy it again with Copy Webhook URL.
- You cannot see Integrations or Webhooks in Discord: you need the Manage Webhooks permission on the server. Ask a server admin to create the webhook or grant the permission.
- The connection shows Failing: the last 3 deliveries failed and the workspace owner was emailed. Usually the webhook was deleted or the channel removed. Create a new webhook, replace the link with Edit, then use Send test.
- Discord is rate limiting: SutramX retries automatically for a few minutes and waits as long as Discord asks. Errors Discord reports as permanent, such as an unknown webhook, are not retried.
Routing and escalation
You can connect up to 10 Discord channels, for example #prod-alerts for production and #staging for everything else. Each connection has its own routing (all monitors, selected groups or selected monitors), and notices follow it too. If you use escalation policies (on Growth and Pro), a Discord step posts to every Discord connection regardless of routing, with the detail "Escalation step 2: still down".
For a community server, consider a read-only channel for alerts so the messages are not buried in conversation, and a separate channel for the people who fix things.
Common questions
Does it cost anything?
No. Discord alerts are included on every plan, Free included, with no per-message charge.
Can I acknowledge an incident from Discord?
Not from the message. Use the incident link in the alert and acknowledge it on the incident page, which also stops any escalation.
Who can change the connection?
Only the workspace owner can connect, edit, re-route or disconnect it. Any member can send a test.
Connect it in SutramX
- Sign in to the SutramX dashboard and open Integrations & API in the sidebar, then the Integrations tab.
- On the Discord card, click Connect. Where you see "Connect with …", you just sign in and approve. Otherwise the card shows two or three short steps and one box to paste into.
- Already have a webhook link? Paste it into the box at the top of the page and SutramX works out which service it belongs to.
- SutramX sends a test straight away so you can confirm delivery before any real incident.
- Optional: use Routing to send only some monitors or groups to this channel.
You can connect more than one Discord destination. Each connection has its own routing, so different channels can receive different monitors.
All plans, Free included. Compare plans on the pricing page, or see all integrations.
