Create a Teams Workflow webhook
- In Microsoft Teams, open the channel that should receive alerts.
- Click ⋯ (More options) next to the channel name and choose Workflows.
- Choose the "Send webhook alerts to a channel" template.
- Click through the wizard, confirming the team and channel.
- Copy the webhook URL shown on the last screen. In SutramX, paste it into "Link from Teams" on the Microsoft Teams card and click Connect.
Things to know
- Legacy Office 365 connector URLs ("Incoming Webhook" connectors) have been retired by Microsoft and are not accepted. Use a Workflow URL instead.
- SutramX accepts Workflows URLs on a logic.azure.com or api.powerplatform.com address. The US government cloud equivalents are accepted too.
- The workflow runs as the person who created it. If that account is removed or loses access to the channel, alerts stop, so create it with an account that will stay around.
- Private channels are not supported by the Workflows template. Use a standard channel.
- Only the workspace owner can connect, edit or disconnect the channel. Any member can send a test.
What the alert looks like
Each alert arrives as an Adaptive Card. A down alert has a red [DOWN] title and a recovery a green [UP] title. Below the title the card lists the monitor URL, the region that confirmed the failure, and the failure detail (for a down alert) or the total downtime (for a recovery). A View incident button opens the incident in SutramX.
[DOWN] Checkout API is DOWN
URL: https://api.example.com/health
Region: FRA1 (Frankfurt, Germany)
Detail: <failure reason>
[View incident]The same channel also receives notices: SSL certificate and domain expiry reminders for monitors with expiry notifications turned on, maintenance started and completed, website health changes, and status updates from third-party providers you follow. Notices start with a tag such as [SSL], [DOMAIN] or [MAINTENANCE]. Monitor names, URLs and failure reasons are escaped, so they cannot create links or formatting in the card.
Test the connection
SutramX sends a test card as soon as you connect, for a monitor called "SutramX test alert". Teams accepts the request before it posts the card, so a successful test says "Teams accepted the test card — check the channel to confirm it arrived". Look in the channel to be sure. To test again later, open the connection's menu on Integrations & API and choose Send test.
Troubleshooting
- "Office 365 connectors were retired by Microsoft": the URL is an old connector link. Create a Workflows webhook as described above and connect that instead.
- "Endpoint redirected to …": paste the final URL. SutramX does not follow redirects.
- The test was accepted but no card appeared: the workflow received the request but did not post it. Open the workflow in Teams (or Power Automate) and check its run history for an error, for example a channel it can no longer post to.
- The connection shows Failing: the last 3 deliveries failed and the workspace owner was emailed. The usual causes are a deleted workflow, an archived channel, or a workflow owner who left the organisation. Fix the cause, then use Send test.
- Teams is rate limiting or briefly down: SutramX retries automatically for a few minutes and honours the wait time Teams asks for.
Routing and escalation
You can connect up to 10 Teams channels. Each connection has its own routing: all monitors, selected monitor groups, or selected monitors. Notices follow the same routing, so a channel routed to the payments monitors only gets reminders about those monitors. Escalation policies (on Growth and Pro) can include a Microsoft Teams step. An escalation step posts to every Teams connection, ignoring routing, and the card's detail reads "Escalation step 2: still down" (with the step number).
Teams cards have no Acknowledge button. To stop an escalation, acknowledge the incident from its page in the dashboard (the View incident button takes you there).
Create one workflow per channel and connect each in SutramX. Each connection has its own routing, so different teams can get only the monitors they own.
Common questions
Can I keep using an Incoming Webhook connector?
No. Microsoft retired Office 365 connectors, and SutramX rejects their URLs. A Workflows webhook does the same job.
Will alerts stop if I leave the company?
They can. The workflow belongs to the account that created it. Create it with a shared or long-lived account, or recreate it before that person leaves and replace the link with Edit on the connection.
Do recoveries post to the same channel?
Yes. A recovery card goes to every channel that received the down alert. A recovery is only sent if the down alert was.
Connect it in SutramX
- Sign in to the SutramX dashboard and open Integrations & API in the sidebar, then the Integrations tab.
- On the Microsoft Teams card, click Connect. Where you see "Connect with …", you just sign in and approve. Otherwise the card shows two or three short steps and one box to paste into.
- Already have a webhook link? Paste it into the box at the top of the page and SutramX works out which service it belongs to.
- SutramX sends a test straight away so you can confirm delivery before any real incident.
- Optional: use Routing to send only some monitors or groups to this channel.
You can connect more than one Microsoft Teams destination. Each connection has its own routing, so different channels can receive different monitors.
