Upgrade, downgrade & cancel
How upgrades, downgrades and billing-period switches work, what happens to monitors over a new limit, and how to cancel, resubscribe or get a refund.
You can change your plan at any time from Plans & billing in the sidebar, on its Plans or Billing tab. Upgrades start right away and are prorated. Downgrades wait until the end of the period you've paid for. Nothing is ever deleted because of a plan change.
Summary#
| Change | When it takes effect | What you pay |
|---|---|---|
| Free → paid plan | As soon as checkout payment is confirmed | The full price of the first period, today |
| Upgrade to a higher plan | As soon as the prorated charge is confirmed | A prorated charge now |
| Monthly → yearly (same plan) | As soon as the charge is confirmed | The yearly price, minus credit for unused time on your current month |
| Downgrade to a lower plan | At the end of your current billing period | The lower price from your next renewal |
| Yearly → monthly (same plan) | At the end of your current year | The monthly price from your next renewal |
| Paid plan → Free | At the end of your current billing period (this is a cancellation) | Nothing more |
Only the workspace owner can change the plan.
Upgrading#
- Go to Billing and scroll to Change plan, or open Plans.
- Pick Monthly or Yearly, then select Upgrade to … on the plan you want.
- Review the dialog. It shows the estimated charge for today and your new price.
- Select Confirm and pay.
The upgrade is never applied before it's paid for. Until the payment is confirmed, you stay on your current plan and Billing says the change is waiting for payment confirmation. On Razorpay you may need to approve the new amount on Razorpay's page, which opens in a new tab. If the browser blocks it, use the Open payment page link.
As soon as the upgrade is confirmed, monitors and resources that SutramX paused because of a plan limit come back, up to the new limits. Slowed intervals return to what you set.
If the payment is declined, you stay on your current plan and Billing shows Upgrade payment failed with a Try again button. See Failed payments.
Downgrading#
- On Billing or Plans, select Downgrade to … on the lower plan.
- Review the dialog. It lists exactly what will change for your account today.
- Select Schedule change.
You keep your current plan and its features until the end of the period you've paid for. After that, your plan changes and the next renewal is billed at the lower price. Until then, Billing shows the Scheduled change and its date.
Cancelling a scheduled downgrade#
Changed your mind? Select Keep … (your current plan) on Billing, then Keep current plan. The scheduled change is cancelled, and your current plan and price continue.
What a downgrade does to your account#
When the downgrade takes effect, SutramX brings your account within the new plan's limits. The confirmation dialog shows these changes beforehand:
- Monitors over the limit are paused, never deleted. Your oldest monitors stay active.
- Monitors faster than the new minimum interval are slowed to it. Your original interval is remembered and comes back if you upgrade again.
- Monitor types the new plan doesn't include (for example multi-step API checks) are paused. So are multi-step checks with more steps than the new plan allows.
- API keys over the limit are disabled, oldest kept. Disabled keys stop working until you upgrade or remove other keys.
- Status pages over the limit are unpublished, oldest kept.
- Custom status page domains stop serving if the new plan doesn't include them. The domain settings are kept.
- White-label is turned off if the new plan doesn't include it, so "Monitored by SutramX" shows again.
- Features you lose are listed by name, for example escalation policies or PagerDuty.
- Probe regions are reduced to the new plan's count automatically: a monitor keeps the first of its chosen regions that fit.
Choosing which monitors to resume#
After a downgrade, the oldest monitors stay active. To run different ones:
- Pause or delete monitors you no longer need.
- On Billing, in Plan & usage, select Choose monitors to resume.
- Tick the monitors to bring back, up to the free slots shown, then select Resume.
Switching between monthly and yearly#
On the same plan, use the Monthly / Yearly toggle on Billing or Plans. Then select Switch to yearly or Switch to monthly.
- Switch to yearly works like an upgrade. It starts once the charge is confirmed. You pay the yearly price minus credit for the unused part of your current month.
- Switch to monthly works like a downgrade. Your yearly period runs to the end, then you're billed monthly. You can cancel the switch before then with Keep ….
You can also change plan and interval together. Moving to a higher plan is treated as an upgrade, and moving to a lower plan as a downgrade.
Cancelling#
- On Billing, select Cancel subscription.
- Confirm with Cancel subscription, or select Keep my plan to back out.
When you cancel:
- Autopay is turned off and you won't be charged again.
- You keep your paid plan until the end of the period you've already paid for. Billing shows "Cancelled — access until …".
- Any scheduled downgrade or pending upgrade is cancelled too.
- When the period ends, your account moves to the Free plan. Monitoring continues within Free limits. Anything over them is paused as described in What a downgrade does to your account. Your monitors, alert rules and history are kept.
Choosing Downgrade to Free on the plan list also cancels your subscription.
Resubscribing and reactivating#
After cancelling, you can subscribe again at any time:
- Before your paid period ends: select Resubscribe on Billing. This starts a new subscription. It's charged today and begins a new billing period from today. It doesn't wait for the end of the cancelled period.
- After your account has moved to Free: pick a plan and go through checkout as usual. You're charged today, and the monitors, intervals, API keys and status pages SutramX paused are restored right away, up to the plan's limits.
When you resubscribe, the prices in effect at that time apply. Your earlier locked price doesn't carry over.
Price lock and plan changes#
While your subscription is active, the price of your plan and interval won't go up. If you change plan or interval, or support moves your billing currency, the current list price of the new choice applies and is then locked.
Refunds#
- If you're not satisfied, you can ask for a refund within 14 days of a charge by emailing support@sutramx.com. There's no money-back guarantee: each request is reviewed by hand, case by case. Approved refunds are returned to your original payment method.
- Otherwise, cancelling does not refund unused time. You keep access until the end of the paid period instead.
- Refunding an alert credit pack takes back the refunded share of its credits, as far as you still have them.
These terms don't limit any refund rights you have under consumer law. See the Terms of Service.
Common questions#
Can I change plans while a payment has failed? No. Settle the failed payment first. Plan changes become available once your subscription is paid up.
Do I lose data when I downgrade? No. Excess items are paused, unpublished or disabled, and come back when you upgrade.
Can I switch currency when I change plans? No. Your billing currency is set by your location (INR in India, USD elsewhere) and is fixed after your first payment. Contact support@sutramx.com if you need to move.
